I Don't Get Haikus

Thought of the day: perhaps I am shallow, dense, or just ignorant, but I just don't get haikus.  What is it about a three-part phrase in a 5-7-5 format that appeals to people?  Is it just a challenge for some to stuff meaningful phrases into this format, as if it were a puzzle?  Or do people pretend to be intrigued by these poems so as to seem more intelligent to others, when in fact they also miss the point?  I could just as easily tell you about how beautiful the emperor's cloak is like everyone else when in fact he is naked.  Here's my first crack at my own Haiku:

Packers 2008 Draft Needs

I am really getting excited for the NFL draft this weekend.  It's always fun to critique and speculate on how the Packers and their division rivals will fare after making roster changes.  Here are my pre-draft thoughts:

Now that Minnesota has signed Jared Allen, there is no doubt in my mind that the Packers #1 need in the draft is a quality offensive lineman to protect our new QB, who has already proven to be much more fragile than Favre.  After that, I think they need another QB, a TE, and a CB/Safety (not necessarily in that order).

As far as trades go, it sure would be nice if the Packers could get Jason Taylor from the Dolphins.  I don't think they need to go after Shaun Alexander, but it wouldn't hurt if we can get him on the cheap -- they do need another good RB in case Grant goes down.
