Family
I am the oldest of 3. My parents are Betty and Larry, and I have two younger sisters, Lisa and Jill. I was married on June 18, 2004 to my wonderful wife Meghan. I am the father of a beautiful baby girl, Audrey Elizabeth.
Interests
- Movies/Movie Popcorn - It's true, sometimes I do go to the movie theater just to get a large bucket of buttery popcorn. On average, I'd say I watch about 2-3 movies per week (some at the theater, some rented). I know. Get a life, right?
- Outdoor Activities - Biking, camping, hiking, you name it.
- Sports - I love watching the Green Bay Packers, Minnesota Wild, and Minnesota Twins. I love to play ultimate frisbee
- Computers/Programming - Duh.
- Frisbee/Disc Golfing - A few of my friends call me "Ace" because I have sunk a few hole-in-ones
- Music - I have a passion for good music, and I (used to) play the drums.
- Video Games - Specifically, Xbox 360. Check out my Halo 3 service record
Music I Like
In a nutshell, I like most types of music to some degree. Exceptions to that rule include Country and most Rap (and variations thereof).
Right now my favorite bands are Avenged Sevenfold and Dream Theater. Although Rock is definitely my favorite genre, I also listen to a wide variety of other music. Other styles you will most often catch me listening to are rock, electronic/dance, industrial, and movie soundtracks. I appreciate talented musicians, whether I like the music or not. Other bands I like: Seether, Crystal Method, Rebecca St. James, Toad the Wet Sprocket, U2, Static-X, Tool, Stone Temple Pilots, Soundgarden, and tons more.
Beliefs
I am a Christian. Specifically, I was raised ELCA Lutheran, but I think the only significant difference between Christian religions is in the way we worship, so I simply call myself a Christian. My wife and I like to joke that she is a "catheran" and I am a "lutheric", as our faiths have merged.
Apart from my Christian beliefs, I also believe:
- You should be nice to people
- If you put your mind to it, you can do just about anything
Irritations
- Poor English (this applies only to people who speak English as their first language and yet have not learned it)
- Loud Chewing
- PEOPLE WHO TYPE ALL IN CAPS OR WITHOUT PUNCTUATION OR GRAMMAR IN THEIR SENTENCES
- Virus Hoaxes, and when people pass them on. Save yourself some time and from being humiliated by visiting http://www.sarc.com first.
- e-Sarcasm. You can't tell if someone is being serious or not if you can't see their face.
- Sloppy code. When programming, I prefer not to clean up after other people.
Conspiracy Theories
I'm pretty sure that Eye Doctors are in league with one another to make money from us poor folks who have trouble seeing. You see, they sell us contacts and glasses, which only further damage our eyesight. Since there is no alternative, we are bound to pay for eye exams and new prescriptions over and over for the duration of our lives. Finally, we get so fed up that we drop a ton of money on laser eye surgery, and start the entire cycle over from the beginning.
It's a conspiracy I tell you.
People I Admire
- My Father - the most patient and supporting man on the face of this earth.
- Brett Favre -- as an athelete and a competitor, there is nobody better. A leader by his own example.
- Nick Bradbury - Nick owns his own software company, Bradsoft, where he is a "one-man show". Nick is best known as the creator of the HTML editor HomeSite, which was acquired by Allaire in 1996 and is now owned by Macromedia. He manages to support his family from selling his software, a feat I too would someday like to accomplish. Not only does Nick write excellent software, I've learned from reading his blogs and his support forums that he is a genuinely nice guy and I respect (and share) his opinion on almost all things.
Notable People I've Met
- Kevin Chevalia - Child actor from Homeward Bound & Homeward Bound II. His brother Steven is also in the acting business. The Chevalias are friends of our family.
- John Kallio - Future President of the United States and one of my best friends. I was promised a position in his cabinet.
- Rebecca St. James - Ok, I didn't really meet her. But I did see her in concert a few times, and at one of them she made eye contact with me TWICE. Some good friends of mine also got a signed photo from her for me (and put in a good word!)
- Michael Jackson - So what if it's not Michael Jackson the pop singer? This guy goes to my church.
- Gilbert Brown - After the Green Bay Packer's won the 1996 Super bowl, I went to the victory parade and celebration in Green Bay. I actually slapped Gilbert Brown a high five on his way to the stadium. He is a large man. Also, he's one of my favorite former Green Bay Packers.
