Google Chrome Released / Today Is Not Thursday
Posted: Wednesday September 3, 2008
Yesterday I had a chance to download and try the new Google browser, Chrome. It was really a surprise to me, as I had not heard anything about it until yesterday morning. When I initially read about it I had no idea that it was to actually be released later that day! I gave it a shot and I was very impressed.
There is nothing flashy about it, it's as simple as a browser could be. There is a search / location bar, forward and back buttons, tabs, and bookmarks. And that's about it. The extremely simple nature of this browser makes it small, fast, and ideal for people who don't need all the bells and whistles.
Now, as a web developer I need a little more power in a browser, such as a developer toolbar, my del.icio.us bookmars plugin, etc. so I won't be choosing this browser as my primary web application, however I will use it for my Gmail, and will install it for friends and relatives who just need a simple web browser.
Sidenote: I woke up this morning and both my wife and I thought today was Thursday. I put out the recycling and wore an NFL jersey as I thought tonight was the kickoff of the football season. Boy did I feel like an ass when I got to work and said "wow, tomorrow is Friday already".
Oh well, happy Wednesday everyone :)
