Meghan and I went to the doctor today to confirm that there is indeed a new Roth on the way. Just like with Audrey, it all started to feel so much more real to me today, when I heard the heartbeat for the first time.

I Don't Get Haikus

Thought of the day: perhaps I am shallow, dense, or just ignorant, but I just don't get haikus. What is it about a three-part phrase in a 5-7-5 format that appeals to people? Is it just a challenge for some to stuff meaningful phrases into this format, as if it were a puzzle? Or do people pretend to be intrigued by these poems so as to seem more intelligent to others, when in fact they also miss the point? I could just as easily tell you about how beautiful the emperor's cloak is like everyone else when in fact he is naked.
